What if I cannot connect to my computer ?
Depending on your hardware configuration on both your computer and mobile phone, multiple issues can come up. Here is a list of known issues.
Connecting via Wifi using a specific address
Automatic discovery of your server PC may not work at all times, so here is a procedure on how to connect anyway :
- Make sure Wifi is enabled on both the Mobile Phone and the computer, and both are connected to the same network.
- Open the Remote Control Server window using the white icon near your computer's clock
- Open the "Help" menu, then "Connection Help", you will see the list of IP addresses of your computer
- On your mobile phone, open the "Select Server" menu
- Select the "Add Server" menu, then type an address found on your computer. If there are more than one, prefer using one that starts with "10." or "192.168."
- Once the address is typed, click OK and Select
- If the connection is not established, try with an other of your computer address found in the previous list.
I have bluetooth hardware on my computer and phone but the server list on the mobile phone is empty
In this case, you can check a few things :
- Make sure the server is running on your desktop, check for a white icon near your computer's clock
- Make sure your computer's bluetooth state is "Discoverable" in the Bluetooth control panel
- Make sure your bluetooth hardware is supported by this software by looking at the bottom right of the server status window.
If it is displayed "Bluetooth not available", make sure your bluetooth hardware is enabled. If it is, it may be because it is not supported.
- Try connecting your phone through ActiveSync (on Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (on Windows Vista and 7) first, then do the following :
- Open the Remote Control Server window using the white icon near your computer's clock
- Open the "Help" menu, then "Connection Help", you will see the list of IP addresses of your computer
- On your mobile phone, open the "Select Server" menu
- Select the "Add Server" menu, then type an address found on your computer. If there are more than one, prefer using one that starts with "10." or "192.168."
- Once the address is typed, click OK and Select
- If the connection is not established, try with an other of your computer address found in the previous list.
Specific Devices Support
Most of the existing devices should work properly with Remote Control for Windows Mobile, but there are a few exceptions.
HTC HD2
As of version 1.0 and 1.1 version of the Remote Control mobile software, there is a known issue with the bluetooth software on the
HTC HD2, which prevents the bluetooth connectivity to work properly. The Wifi connectivity is not affected.
On the technical side, your bluetooth device must be running the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack or the Widcomm Stack,
except for the HD2. Future versions of the software may fix this issue.
