Remote Control 0.7.0-Beta2

Download here this new release 0.7.0-Beta2.

Since it's snowing a bit in Montreal, I've had a bit of time to look around problems on the 0.7.0-Beta1 problems.

Most of the reported problems were about Widcomm support. The stack was crashing randomly on server shutdown... I hate those API that don't do what they should : Close means close, and you should be able to destroy the object. Well, not with the widcomm API. Some worker thread is still trying to tell by callback that the connection is being closed... This is a bit annoying where there is no connection !

Anyway, this new Beta should fix this. There's also now in the stats bar a "bluetooth" status, whether it is using Microsoft Stack or Widcomm Stack.

I'm also working on some remote display of the PC screen, and to have some commands executed upon Bluetooth status change... This should be cool ! Wait and see !

Jerome, thanks for the program, it's very comfortable to use. What can you say about creation of something similar but based on AVRCP for the PC. It can be useful for the users of bluetooth handsets with control possibility.

Tim,

That could happen if you did an upgrade from a previous release. Trying uninstalling the software completely from both sides (Mobile and Desktop), then try installing again. If you can do it, try checking there are no files left on the PPC in the directory "bluetooth remote control" on the mobile side.

Hope this helps.

Winter,

Thank you about the feedback !

However, I don't know about implementing AVRCP, since the model is a bit different from the one I'm using. But I'll try to look into this. I just need to find an hardware compliant with it to test against it.

Hiya Jérôme Smile

Great app, Ive been having a great time playing with it and I hope youre having just as much fun creating it.

My only problem with the UI is that I'm using an HTC P3300 (http://www.europe.htc.com/products/htcp3300.html), which is excellent but, as it doesnt have a keyboard, makes entering commands quite tricky.

Do you have any plans to overlay a basic GUI (even a few buttons like Volume up/down, Next/Back and FF,RW etc) as this would make an enourmous difference for folks with touch screens. And it will give those with both another way to skin the cat.

I presume it will be relatively easy to use any standard IDE to create and link these to your keypress commands.

Best wishes, and keep up your superb work. Have a great day Smile

Mike,

I do have fun working on that piece of code Smile

This is an evolution I haven't worked on yet, although I do have the infrastructure to implement it.

I'll try to have some kind of basic input for the next few releases.

I'll keep that in mind !

Thanks a lot for the feedback !

Hi, i downloaded the latest version (0.7.0-Beta2) and sent it to my device and when I click it, it says "There is no application associated with BTRemoteSetup-0.7.0-Beta2.msi". Run the application first, then open this file from within the application"

What am I doin wrong? or are there some files missing?

Thanks.

Hi Jerome,

I have encoutered an issue on my work computer (XPSP2):
System.DllNotFoundException :
Unable to load DLL 'Orion.Bluetooth.Widcomm.dll': ... (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800736B1)

On my home computer server application works fine with MS BT stack.

Hi Jéerôme

This peace of software is really great. Just install and it works. Never seen such a behaviour in bluetooth related software.

Is there a possibility to shut down Windows using your software, or what would even better: Ability to create own profiles for other applications?

Cheers
Michael

Dear Alexander,

Could you check for the presence of a file named "wbtapi.dll" in your System32 directory ?

If you do, and you don't use the widcomm stack, please try to remove it.

Keep me posted !

Micheal,

Thanks ! I really appreciate it !

About a shutdown feature, I'm working on some "remote control display" that'll include some system functions like this one.

Stay tuned ;)

Hi Jerome,

I don't think you remember me, but we communicated over email sometime back regarding the installation on Pocket PC 2003. Unfortunately following these guidelines also did not get me a successful installation. However, I have now created an installer for Pocket PC 2003 which I would like to contribute if you are interested.
